Indonesian worker killed, three injured after crane collapse

A construction accident in Selangor in Malaysia claimed the life of an Indonesian worker and left three others severely injured after the arm of a crane broke and hit them on Tuesday morning.

At about 10:30am on January 2, part of the crane collapsed and struck two Indonesian and two Bangladeshi workers at plot 3 of the i-City construction site in Seksyen 7 Shah Alam, China Press reported.

The 38-year-old Indonesian man named Matrias was pronounced dead at the scene after firefighters recovered his body from underneath the collapsed structure.

The second Indonesian victim, named Sudawi, 46, suffered broken legs and was sent to Shah Alam Hospital for treatment.

The Bangladeshi victims – Tofazzal Hossain, 37, and Raja Miah, 30 – were rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, where they are receiving treatment for bone fractures in their legs.

Shah Alam police chief, Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat, said police were looking into the cause of the accident and investigating whether it involved negligence.
