Authorities identified the victim in Wednesday's fatal fire in Point Pleasant Borough as 65-year-old Dennis Breuel.
Breuel, who was the only resident of the home on Ridgefield Drive, was found behind his bedroom door after the fire was placed under control, according to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
The Ocean County Medical Examiner determined Breuel died of inhalation of combustible products and ruled the death an accident, the statement said.
Police responded to the Point Pleasant Borough home just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday.
The fire started in a corner of the living room in the one-story house, authorities said, and gutted most of the inside. The fire was ruled accidental and likely started from energized electrical equipment.
Photos from the scene show authorities sifting through piles of charred belongings from the home.
