Call volume in the greater Hartford area for distressed drivers is manageable today despite the winter storm pummeling the region, AAA officials said.
As of 11 a.m., the group had received fewer than 200 calls for emergency roadside service. During the recent stretch of cold weather, the agency was getting more than 200 calls an hour for help.
Spokesman Amy Parenter said the low call volume is an indication drivers aren’t venturing out.
“Of course it is good for AAA to be getting fewer calls because fewer calls mean fewer members in trouble,” Parmenter said. “Unfortunately though, drivers calling to be pulled from a snowbank or drivers who have been involved in a crash, are often at greater risk than drivers with dead batteries who can retreat to the safety and warmth of their homes while waiting for help to arrive.”
