John Honse
JENERA — John L. Honse, 57, of Jenera, Ohio went home to Jesus on December 27, 2017 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay, Ohio.
He was born November 7, 1960 in Bluffton, Ohio.
He is survived by his parents, Lester and Sally Honse, his siblings, Mary (Rick) of Hilliard, Ohio, Nancy of Dublin, Ohio and Andrew (Kelly) of Bluffton, Ohio.
His sister, Cindy, preceded him in death.
He found great joy spending time with his five nieces and two nephews and loved the furry canine members Maggie and Ollie.
John graduated from Cory-Rawson High School. He attended Lima Technical College and the University of Toledo. John retired from Hancock County.
He loved the small village of Jenera, where he was mayor for the past 17 years. He worked diligently to help the village improve and remain a strong community within Hancock County.
He managed the post office until its closure last year. He served as chairman of the board for Appleseed EMS in Arlington, Ohio. Prior to its closing, John was a member of the Jenera United Methodist Church. He served on the board, as music coordinator and as treasurer for years. John was truly committed and found comfort and happiness by following the teachings of Jesus Christ In addition, John was an avid sports fan.
He proudly spent his spare time officiating local track and field events for 37 years. In honor of his years of service supporting and helping young athletes succeed, John was awarded a special commendation. He enjoyed Ohio State University sports and rarely missed any games, especially against that team up north.
John was a valued and loved member of his family. He enjoyed spending time at cookouts, camping, fishing and watching sports surrounded by his family.
He loved music, played several instruments and had a wonderful singing voice. John loved dogs, bird watching and nature. And he was never one to turn down a good cookie, especially chocolate chip cookies.
John will be remembered for his love of life, strong independent nature and his never give up attitude. He was always willing to help anyone in need with random acts of kindness. His kind actions and heart of gold touched many lives throughout his far too short life. He continued giving after his death, as he was an organ, eye and tissue donor.
