FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) --
An investigation is underway at a Fresno State fraternity after police said a student died after visiting Delta Sigma Phi. He has been identified as 19-year-old Omar Nemeth of Fresno.Detectives have not confirmed the cause of death but friends said someone at the fraternity handed Nemeth a pill Wednesday and after taking it, he became unconscious.
Police said by the time they received the medical call for help the young man had already been taken to St. Agnes Hospital and was pronounced dead.
Members of Delta Sigma Phi did not answer the door when we tried to reach them, but the national office sent out a statement saying, "While the investigation continues, it is important to note that this was not connected to any chapter event and occurred during the school's winter break."
Officials said an autopsy is being scheduled and a cause of death will be determined pending the results of toxicology tests.
