Andy Murray withdraws from Australian Open due to hip injury

Andy Murray has pulled out of the Australian Open, as his hip problems force him to abandon hopes to play the tournament.
"Sadly I won't be playing in Melbourne this year, as I am not yet ready to compete, I'll be flying home shortly to assess all the options," said Murray, quoted by the Australian Open's Twitter account.
Murray — who has not played since Wimbledon last July — planned to return to tennis at the Brisbane International this week, but he withdrew from the tournament after failing to train on Tuesday.
In a lengthy and emotional Instagram post on Tuesday night, the Scot said he was "really hurting inside" as his hip continued to be a serious issue.
"Obviously continuing rehab is one option and giving my hip more time to recover," he wrote.
"Surgery is also an option but the chances of a successful outcome are not as I high as I would like which has made this my secondary option and my hope has been to avoid that. However, this is something I may have to consider."
Murray left Brisbane on Thursday on a flight to Melbourne, but it is understood that he is flying on to Europe and will not stay for the year's first grand slam event which starts at Melbourne Park on January 15.
