Melania Trump’s spokeswoman torched a new book claiming the first lady “was in tears” as her husband won the presidency.
“The book is clearly going to be sold in the bargain fiction section. Mrs. Trump supported her husband's decision to run for President and in fact, encouraged him to do so. She was confident he would win and was very happy when he did,” Melania Trump spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement Wednesday.
Michael Wolff writes in “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” that the first lady “was in tears — and not of joy” on election night.
An excerpt of the book was published online Wednesday by New York Magazine.
The book claims the president was “visibly fighting with his wife, who seemed on the verge of tears” during inauguration.
The book also alleges that the president and first lady sleep in separate bedrooms in the White House.
“The first time since the Kennedy White House that a presidential couple had maintained separate rooms,” the book reads.
