From the prologue, "The Wife Between Us" grabs the reader.

We're pulled into a typical city scene. Yellow cabs race by as a woman returns from the gym, fishing into her bag to find her keys.

Someone, the narrator, is watching her.

"She is oblivious to what I have done to her.

"She is unaware of the damage I have wrought; the ruin I have set in motion."

And with that a novel of intrigue is off.

Authors Sarah Pekkanen, a former journalist and bestselling novelist, and Greer Hendricks, a former editor at Simon & Schuster, are speaking at the Clinton Book Shop, 12 Main St., Clinton on Sunday, Jan. 7., from 1 to 3 p.m.

It's a ticketed event and purchasing the book is required. For more information, call 908-735-8811 or visit this site.

The novel, publishes Jan. 9, and has already been optioned for film by the team behind "The Girl on the Train."

This follows Vanessa who has to leave her four-bedroom colonial when her husband leaves. She's forced to take a job clerking at Saks and live with her aunt.

Vanessa develops an obsession with her ex and his new love, which sounds not all that healthy but intriguing.
