Case documents fabricated, says Khaleda’s lawyer

The documents of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia were prepared with fabricated information, her defence lawyer Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali claimed.

The lawyer said this while placing arguments in a hearing of the case held o Thursday in makeshift court at Alia Madrasa premises in Bakshibazar area of Dhaka.

After hearing, Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the makeshift court fixed January 10, 11 for the next hearing of the case.

The BNP chief's lawyer said, the investigation could not prove that where the fund money was distributed, UNB reports.

Even no witness could show that Khaleda Zia had signed any paper, the lawyer added.

On July 3, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 21 million (2.10 crore) that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.

On August 8, 2011, the commission filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abuse of power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
