BAYONNE -- With about 10 inches of snow on the ground, Bayonne residents made their way out into the cold to dig out their cars and clear their walkways, some more enthusiastically than others.
"I'm just loving it out here," Tyrone Jerner said while shoveling at the corner of 34th Street and Broadway. "This is my type of weather. I used to play football out in this so this is great. I've must have been out here for about two hours."
Snow plows continually worked to clear the streets for traffic. Some pedestrians even decided to walk the streets instead of the sidewalks due to few cars being on the roads. .
"I'm dealing with it as best as possible." Lenny Sparrow said during a quick break from snow-blowing at the corner of 36th Street and Broadway. "It's what's to be expected. They said it was going to snow and it snowed. I've been out here for about an hour or so but I don't mind it because it's winter time and you have to expect this to happen in the winter."
Some residents even worked together to help clear out cars that were stuck in the snow while others cleared the sidewalks on Broadway.
"I must have come out here about four or five times," said Tony Chaviano while using a snowblower at the corner of 36th Street and Avenue C. "This wind isn't a joke. When it hits you in the face you feel like you're getting cut. But you got to keep going and keep the sidewalks safe."
While today's storm is being called a "bomb cyclone" -- an extratropical cyclone that rapidly intensifies over a short period of time -- a term that didn't seem to have much name recognition in the Peninsula City today.
"I never heard the term 'bomb cyclone' before but it must have something to do with mental issues because we all must be crazy if we're out here," Jerner joked.
While many residents appeared to make multiple trips outside to deal with the snow, some are just accepting the situation for what it is.
"After you get out here and get the hang of it you just keep going but in the beginning it's pretty rough," said Chaviano. "It looks like we're trapped in a snow cone."
