KEWANEE — Alice Mimi Hammons, 81, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at 4:35 am at the Richard L. Owens Hospice House in Peoria. Mimi was born January 5, 1936 the daughter of Mel and Alice (Engels) Stead. She graduated from Kewanee High School. Mimi married Jack R. Hammons on December 31, 1952 in Kewanee, he preceded her in death on February 18, 2008.
Mimi is survived by three sons, Steve (Jo) Hammons, Kewanee, Pat (Lu) Hammons, Galva, Chris (Lisa) Hammons, Kewanee; seven grandchildren, Lee Ann (Tony) Tessier, Tammy (Greg) Pruis, Ryan (Mandi) Hammons, Matt (Lacey) Hammons, Jen (John) Hammons Gearhart, Autumn (Ben) Brown, and Alissa (John) Eckart; 15 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchildren; and special nephew, Tim Stead. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, John Tony and Brian (in infancy); three brothers, Bob, Father Mel, and Ted.
Mimi worked different jobs in the Kewanee area. Her most enjoyable job was taking care of her grandchildren. Mimi enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Family requests casual attire for funeral and visitation. Funeral services will be 10:00 am on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Visitation Church, Kewanee. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6:30 pm on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm.
