The Ashland Gallery Association organizes art walks the first Friday of every month in downtown Ashland, the Railroad District and surrounding areas.
On Friday, Jan. 5, participating galleries and studios will be open until 8 p.m. to unveil new exhibits and host artists' receptions. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work and techniques. Some galleries host live music and art demonstrations during the event. Art walk maps are available at any of the venues.
"Africa: Fashion and Photography," an exhibit of wildlife photography taken at Selous Game Reserve in south Tanzania and clothing designed from African fabrics purchased in Zanzibar by Jennifer Jensen, will be in the spotlight at Ashland Natural Medicine. Line, color, shape and texture weave together Jensen's clothing designs and compositions in selected safari images.
"Public Land Grab," an exhibit of photography by Bobbi Murphy that explores the transfer of public lands from federal to state governments, will be displayed in The Photographer's Gallery at the Ashland Art Center.
"Tales and Dreams," an exhibit of art and electronic media by Jennifer Garrett, will be displayed at Ashland Pony Espresso and Washington Federal Bank. Garrett completed the four-year fine-arts program with Semyon Bilmes at Atelier Maui, formerly the Ashland Academy of Art, in 2011. She works in pencil, watercolor, acrylics, oils and in digital art programs. Garrett will demonstrate iPad drawing at the reception. The show also features two works by Tom duBois, courtesy of Masterpiece Christian Fine Arts Foundation.
