El Cerrito has affordable housing projects under construction and is considering how to add more to meet the region’s heavy demand.

EL CERRITO — A free and timely “Brace & Bolt!” workshop on Jan. 11 will explain the how and why of earthquake retrofitting for single-family homes and duplexes.

The session will cover the state’s Earthquake Brace and Bolt program, how to select a contractor, and what is involved in the permit process.

“The Earthquake Brace + Bolt program provides homeowners up to $3,000 to strengthen their foundation and lessen the potential for earthquake damage,” according to the program website.

The workshop, hosted by the city’s Development Services Division as part of a series for homeowners, will be held 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the council chamber at City Hall, 10890 San Pablo Ave.
