Chelsea boss Antonio Conte: My clubs never give me the players I want

ANTONIO CONTE has criticised the Chelsea board for their transfer strategy, suggesting he hasn’t been able to sign his main targets.

The Italian arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer and led the Blues to the Premier League title in his first season at the club.

Conte spent more than £170m improving his squad before this campaign, bringing in several new signings including star striker Alvaro Morata, as well as midfielders Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater.

The January transfer window opened earlier this week and while Chelsea are expected to bring in more new faces, Conte admits he isn’t getting his hopes up.

“I do not aim high with my requests,” he told Sky Sports Italia.

“I always ended up at clubs who were running an austerity programme.”

“Especially as in my history I've rarely been given the players I asked for.

"I always ended up at clubs who were running an austerity programme.

"I just try to do my work. If someone arrives, good, if they don't, then that's fine too. I have to continue my work, either way."
