Mumbai: All five suspects are undergoing the lie-detector test in Arpita murder case

Mumbai: The Malwani police have yet not solved the mysterious death of 24-year-old emcee Arpita Tiwari, whose semi-nude body was found at a Malad high-rise in December last year. Her relatives and friends have been accusing five men, including her boyfriend, of pushing her out of window of the 15th floor flat at Malad’s Manavsthal apartment.

The police are banking heavily on the forensic analysis report after it failed to track down the killer after recording the statements of suspects and reconstructing the crime sequence. All the suspects have been asked not to leave the city and to visit Malwani police station as and when required by the investigators. The police are now taking the suspects to state Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina where they are undergoing polygraphic tests one by one.

“We were confident of getting a lead after recording statements of the suspects but the servant who had earlier said that he had seen one of the men touching Tiwari inappropriately later changed his statement and added that he could have been mistaken. So, their polygraphic tests are being conducted at FSL, Kalina,” said a senior Mumbai police officer. An FSL official told the Free Press Journal that it is a ‘long process to conduct a polygraphic test.’ “After taking case details from the investigating officer, we played a slow recording of the incident and psychologists asked certain questions from suspects whose pulse rate, blood pressure, respiration and perspiration are checked simultaneously. It is a long procedure and takes almost a day or two,” added the FSL official.

After conducting their polygraphic tests, the suspects’ Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature (BEOS) profiling will be conducted at FSL Kalina. BEOS is a scientific tool which is used to identify individuals with experience of participating in a crime. And the last resort for investigators will be to conduct a narco-analysis test of suspects. Though these reports will not be admissible in the court, the FSL official added, “These reports will help investigators solve the murder case.”

The Malwani police have registered a murder case after Tiwari’s father suspected foul play in the entire episode and wants all the suspects to be put behind bars. Meanwhile, FSL teams are using their powerful gold standard of technique called Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) to analyse if Tiwari was given or consumed any lethal chemical before she died on December 11.
