In a bid to maintain both accuracy and transparency, the e-challan system introduced by traffic police on January 2 in State Capital is likely to prove beneficial for the traffic police personnel in the coming days. The steps are being taken to maintain a proper database of the habitual violators besides keeping the records for future reference. Meanwhile, the usual defaulters who escaped easily from police will be on the radar.
DSP (Traffic-1), Dilip Xalxo under whose leadership the traffic surveillance project was taken up said that this device will serve our purpose in different ways besides providing much respite to the public.
The service initiated on a pilot basis will be further extended at all the traffic check posts in the coming days. At present, 40 e-challan devices have been handed over to the traffic constables after imparting training to them. After the introduction of e-challan system here, now through online mode, payment can be done, lessening the burden of both drivers and the traffic police.
“The biggest benefit of this system is that often traffic constables were held responsible for mismanagement while imposing penalty on the defaulters. The online payment will solve the issue to an extent. Also, on the spot fine collection in the recent time has created much ruckus.
Following the instructions of CM Raghubar Das, the measure has come as much respite in maintaining the records,” said, Xalxo.
Sharing other benefits of e-challan system, the traffic DSP further added that the payment provisions at all the four traffic police stations will ease down the burden of constables in keeping the record. Also, earlier it was highly difficult to keep the track record of errant drivers manually which paved a way for defaulters to escape.
“Since the automated system is highly advanced, if within a week, defaulters fail to make payment, the challan will be sent directly to his/her residence as details are already registered with us.
Also, there is a provision where court will summon the defaulters, if traffic police do not receive the amount imposed on the defaulters on time,” the Traffic DSP said.
