PATNA: A special team of Bihar Police on Wednesday seized fake stamp papers worth Rs10 crore in the state capital, a senior police official said.

“A police team seized fake stamp papers near Rajender Nagar flyover here. However, those involved in the racket managed to escape,” Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj told reporters.

According to the SSP, police teams are conducting raids at various places in Patna since the recovery of fake stamp papers.

“We suspect that more fake stamp papers have been brought to the state capital and the police are making all efforts to recover those,” Maharaj added.

In 2013, the Patna Police had seized fake stamp papers worth Rs107 crore and arrested 16 people in this connection.

Income Tax raids on human hair exporters in Karnataka recently resulted in disclosure of Rs65 crore and seizure of crores in cash and jewellery from them, said an official on Tuesday.

“Tax evasion even on income from hair offered by devotees in temples was found by our investigation directorate teams,” said Joint Director G. Ramesh in a statement here.

The tax sleuths raided hair exporters in the state and seized Rs2.5 crore in cash, jewellery valued at Rs5 crore and 140kg silver from their residences.

“Inmates of women’s hostels in the state were also found to be in the business of cutting their long locks and selling them to earn easy money,” said Ramesh. Besides from temples, the exporters bought human hair from beauty parlours and shipped it to Africa and European countries where fascination for dry hair is high for weaves, wigs and extensions.
