The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) is all set to organise the city’s first 'Kachra Mahotsav' (Raipur Garbage Fest’ 18) from January 19 to 21 at the RMC Garden, Chhotapara here.
The ‘Kachra Mahotsav’ is being organized with an aim to increase awareness, use the waste generated in the city creatively and to showcase multiple techniques for reusing things that are labelled as garbage, a RMC press release informed.
The three-day festival will be filled with workshops, talks, performances and also some interesting installations.
The RMC along with a Raipur based voluntary group Bunch of Fools has also launched Kabaad Morcha to collect and keep aside the waste from the city for creation of installations by students from J.J School of Arts, Mumbai; Indira Kala Academy, Rajnandgaon; local school students and Pramod Sahu of Chaapaak Art Shaala.
Workshops will be conducted on topics like creating compost from kitchen waste, tactics of recycling & upcycling waste and scrap material, waste segregation, etc.
“It is an enterprising task that we have undertaken in view of the nationwide movement of Swaccha Bharat. We request all the citizens of Raipur to come and be a part of this unique festival and make it a massive success’, said Rajat Bansal, Commissioner, Raipur Municipal Corporation while announcing this three-day fest.
One can contribute by donating selected waste at the Kabaad Morchas. Your smallest contribution will count a lot for us. Through this three-day festival we wish to celebrate recycling, up-cycling and help create an environmentally conscious city, he said.
Bands like Dharavi Rocks and Thaalavattam who are famous for their captivating music created by using instruments made of junk will perform at Kachra Mahotsav, Bansal said.
A flea market is also being set up for brands who create their products by using unique recycling and upcycling methods.
