Crews were called on Wednesday after a Secret Service employee reported that flames were burning in the ceiling of the second floor at around 2.40pm local time.
Officers from the New Castle Police Department also attended the scene, with fire extinguishers used to suppress the fire before the area was inspected to ensure it had been completely put out.
The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear, Sergeant Arthur Mendoza said.
Neither of the Clintons were home at time and no injuries were reported.
The couple bought the 5,232 sq ft (486 sq m) home in Chappaqua - about 40 miles north of New York City - in 1999, at a cost of $1.7m.
