DESAM holds foundation day

Imphal, January 03 2018: The 16th foundation day of the Demo-cratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) was observed at JNIMS audito-rium today.

DESAM, in collaboration with JNIMS Blood Bank, also organised a blood donations camp as a part of the event in which numerous students voluntarily donated blood.

Headmaster in-charge of Kumbi Sandong Primary School Kh Indrakumar Singh, Principal of Lamlong Higher Secondary School, Hijam Sobita Devi and science graduate teacher of Oinam High School, Thing-baijam Swarankumar Singh were felicitated with Chin-goo Maichou Khongnang- thaba Award in connection with the programme.

The award consisted cash prize of Rs 5000, a shawl and a citation each.

Education Minister Th Radheshyam, DESAM pre-sident Moirangthem Ang- amba, JNIMS Director Prof Th Bhimo Singh, KSO GHQ president Paotinthang Lu-pheng and ANSAM presi- dent Seth Shathsang were present at the event as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Speaking at the event, Minister Th Radheshyam said that education plays a big role in improving the economy of the society or a region.

Education is the process of grooming an individual to become a responsible citizen as well as to ensure a comfortable and contented life, he said adding that education is also a means learning to contribute for the greater good of the society.

He pointed out that in the modern society, educational emphasis should be given on political, economic, social and legal aspects.

Education should mainly focus on technology as the modern society is becoming increasingly dependant on technology, he added.

Education consists of three aspects, mainly knowledge, skill and deeper understanding.

All these components are necessary to build and maintain a long lasting relationship between the hills and the valley in the State.

Minister Radheshyam stated that one goes to schools and colleges to gain formal education however, education is not complete without manners, discipline and knowledge one learns in his/her home and localities etc.

KSO GHQ president Paotinthang Lupheng said that bandhs and blockades will never improve the education system.

It is necessary for all student organisations to ensure that education is not disturbed in any way in the State.

He opined that there are numerous misunderstanding and lack of communication between the people of the hills and the valley and as such it is imperative for the youth to ensure understanding among the people and bring overall development in the State.

On the other hand, ANSAM president Seth Shathsang said that Manipur is a multi-ethnic community State but the people are fighting with one another over different political aspirations.

He further urged the people of the State to work together to bring peace, prosperity and development in the State.
