There’s no question that there’s a palpable tension between President Trump and the press. Trump used to elicit loud boos by pointing out the reporters covering his campaign rallies, and now he’s preparing his own fake news awards:
I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5:00 o’clock. Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!

It’s all a bit much for David Sirota, who has a theory.
Theory: Twitter has made a whole generation of reporters perhaps the first human beings to be explicitly told we suck and are horrible people every minute of every day, 24-7 for our entire careers.
— David Sirota (@davidsirota) January 2, 2018
The thing is, a lot of journalists do suck, and this is the first chance the public has had to tell them.
Oh, these poor journalists. https://t.co/PJ2FnqLKSk

— Mujahed Kobbe (@Moj_kobe) January 3, 2018
Maybe if you guys were less horrible people wouldn't constantly remind you of it.
You guys could start by not being partisan hacks. Maybe work on not printing lies or destroying normal people. Simple things like thay could go a long way. https://t.co/CGfXlw0WW0
— Free Northerner (@FreeNortherner) January 3, 2018
You’re going too far, but as a generation of reporters most of you must have failed journalism 101. News reports aren’t op-ed pieces and the difference escapes too many. https://t.co/SEqqldhgYW

Couldn't happen to a more deserving group https://t.co/NXntpIJDTx

Yes but in fairness most of them suck. https://t.co/3TKFmyo2sv
— Our Hidden History (@OurHiddenHistry) January 3, 2018
That’s because you suck and are horrible people … most of you. This has been pointed out for 2 centuries. B Franklin, M Twain many others have made this case https://t.co/hTPtuluNXX
— Rebecca B (@starboard_light) January 2, 2018
Have you tried not sucking 24 hours a day and not being a horrible person for your entire career? https://t.co/2fUy3V65b6
— Misha the Mysterious (@drethelin) January 3, 2018
Your tweet contains its own solution.
Don't suck. https://t.co/X2kGIYvHKH
— HRH Mach I (@Machovellian) January 3, 2018
Maybe try not sucking and not being horrible people and see if you all get better results. Report unbiased facts correctly and your audience will probably not blame the messengers. https://t.co/EnyLSmKiee

You’re looking at the symptom David!
Could the root cause be some of the things we’ve seen in print?
Could it be reporters no longer…report?
Could it be today’s “reporter” would find it difficult to report a baseball score of 3-1 without making a personal political statement? https://t.co/FE4yy20Qxk— White Hat Black Hat (@usa_comes_back) January 3, 2018
Alternate theory: Twitter has exposed you for the partisan Fake News propaganda you are https://t.co/iIYCDqohIa

Twitter made you aware of what people said to the TV and newspapers every day before Twitter was available. #fify https://t.co/Kbxsoq8ZX6

Nope. Twitter just made it easier to tell you to your "face." https://t.co/tIlEcvagj3

So what you're saying is that Twitter is good? https://t.co/GjObNmwmWk
— Earl Sweatshop (@BLACKMESSlAH) January 3, 2018
Twitter didn't make reporters into horrible people who suck, horrible people who suck are just naturally attracted to that profession and Twitter allows normal people to point this fact out to you 24/7.
P.S. You're a horrible person and you suck.🤗 https://t.co/51VsYDxPFX— Children Of The Dust (@Me2S3M) January 3, 2018

Hmm, yeah, I can't think of any other group of humans who were treated like garbage 24-7. Reporters are definitely the first… https://t.co/OdwvKAVJkW
