Anti-Dravidian forces in Tamil Nadu with hopes on Rajinikanth will fail: MK Stalin

CHENNAI: Three days after RSS ideologue and the BJP's advisor S Gurumurthy Tweeted that Rajinikanth's political entry could spark a tectonic shift in Tamil Nadu's "frozen Dravidian politics," DMK's working President MK Stalin said that any attempt to upend Dravidian politics will only end in failure.
Stalin spoke to the press after actor Rajinikanth visited DMK leader M Karunanidhi in what he termed a courtesy call and a meet to receive the nonagenarian's "blessings" for his political journey. Speaking to the press briefly the actor said: "Karunanidhi was doing well and that he felt energized after meeting him."
The meeting, and Stalin's comment on the threat to Dravidianism, underscores speculation surrounding Rajinikanth's affiliations, especially after he declared his politics will contain an aspect of spirituality. Stalin, referring to Rajinikanth's Sunday speech said: "Rajinikanth has made it clear that his politics will be spiritual. But there are some elements creating an impression that this line of politics will destabilize the stature of Dravidian politics."
To accentuate, Stalin drew on the political history of Dravidianism. "This is the land of Periyar (idealogue EV Ramasamy), Anna (CN Annadurai), and Kalaignar (Karunanidhi.) There are many evidences of people trying to destroy the Dravidian movement and failing."
Actor Rajinikanth, amid comments of an imminent political entry by contemporary Kamal Haasan, announced on December 31 that he will begin a political party ahead of the next Assembly elections. He has also begun the work of convening his fans on digital platforms. His meet with Karunanidhi arrives at a time the BJP state unit appears hopeful of riding on his popularity. The national party, as of now, has one Parliamentarian from Tamil Nadu and no presence in the state Assembly.
