Dehradun residents experienced cold conditions over the past 24 hours on Tuesday. The minimum temperature was recorded at around six degrees Celsius in the provisional State capital and it is expected to dip further by a few degrees in the next few days. Snowfall at higher reaches of was also reported in the past 24 hours and the minimum temperatures at many places of mountainous parts have dipped to sub-zero levels in the State. Meteorological centre officials stated that frost is likely to occur during the morning hours at a few places in mountains while fog is likely to occur at isolated places in plains especially in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand on Wednesday.
Dehradun residents experienced cold conditions with mild wind during morning and evening hours. Sunshine during the day provided some relief from the cold to the residents.
The State Meteorological Centre Director Bikram Singh said that a fresh western disturbance is very likely to affect Western Himalayan regions from January 4, 2018 onwards. Very light to light rain/snow has been forecast at isolated places especially in higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand while dry weather is likely to prevail in rest of the state on January 5.
He further said that fog occurred in some parts of plains while was frost reported at isolated places in the mountains on Tuesday. The maximum temperatures remained normal in plains and appreciably below normal in the mountainous regions. The minimum temperatures remained normal to appreciably above normal in plains and below normal in the mountainous parts, he said, adding the highest maximum temperature 23.1°C was recorded in Dehradun while lowest minimum temperature -2.8°C was recorded at Matela in Almora.
He said that the weather forecast for Uttarakhand on Wednesday is mainly clear to partly cloudy sky and dry weather.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature and minimum temperatures were recorded at 23.1 degree Celsius, four notches above the normal, and 6.0 degree Celsius, normal, respectively in Dehradun. In Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 17.1 degree Celsius, two notches below the normal, and 9.7 degree Celsius, four notches the normal respectively. In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 10.3 degree Celsius, two notches below the normal, and 0.3 degree Celsius two notches below the normal.
In Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 12.4 degree Celsius and 2.2 degree Celsius respectively. Singh said that the weather forecast for Dehradun on Wednesday is clear sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 21 degree Celsius and 6 degree Celsius respectively here on Wednesday. It has been witnessed and experienced that many homeless and orphan people have huddled together just to get warmth from uncontrollable condition.
