Fans of Cafe Eugene’s Northwest-themed cuisine will need to head across the state line for their next fix.
The farm-to-table Albany restaurant closed its doors Jan. 1, a victim of slow business.
“I can say that we all truly gave our best to make Eugene a successful long term neighborhood restaurant,” Michael Petrilli, director of operations for the 1100 (restaurant) Group, wrote to the East Bay Express by email. “We simply were not receiving enough customers to make it sustainable.”
The group, which owns The Star and The Little Star pizzerias, plans to convert the 1175 Solano Ave. space into a Mexican restaurant called Cantina Del Sol. According to the Express, that new venture, with chef Luis Rodriguez (Picante), will open sometime this month.
Cafe Eugene lasted nearly two years, having opened in January 2016.
