The Fosters is coming to an end on Freeform.
According to Deadline, the Peabody Award-winning series will wrap up with a three-part series finale this summer. The Fosters will return next week for the second half of its fifth and final season which will conclude with the two-hour 100th episode, which will set up the three-night finale event.
However, this isn't the end for the Fosters family. A spin-off series centered on Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) has already been ordered by the network. The new show will begin with 13 episodes and jump to the future, showing Callie and Mariana in their early 20s, living together in Los Angeles and "exploring different sides of the city," according to the trade mag. Mariana will still be working in tech, while Callie will continue on her path to social work. Conversations are still taking place about additional Fosters cast members making the jump.

The Fosters Season 5 is in the middle of tackling a heavy DACA and immigration storyline, which will pick back up in the midseason premiere. Meanwhile, Mariana will continue to lead the crusade to save her charter school from turning private.
Over the course of five seasons and 100 episodes, The Fosters has become a staple drama for Freeform and their "Becomers" brand. They've tackled serious topics like the foster care system, LGBTQ rights and marriage equality, gun control and others with critical acclaim.
The series returns on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 8/7c on Freeform.
