Good Morning Britain's Ben Shephard reveals Ann Widdecombe's TRUE motives on CBB

CELEBRITY Big Brother fans were shocked when they saw former Tory MP Ann Widdecombe enter the Channel 5 show.

The 70-year-old made her way into the Celebrity house last night as part of its all-female line-up.

And while her appearance may have been surprising for some, no-one was more shocked than host Ben Shephard.

The newsreader, who was filling in for on the ITV breakfast show, revealed that Ann had previously revealed she'd "never" take part in the Channel 5 reality behemoth, which is now entering its 21st series.

Ben recalled: "She said: 'Some of it I'll never touch, I was offered huge sums for Big Brother, but never.'"

He added: "Ann told us: 'It's nothing but voyeurism. You are watching people been selected that don't get on and you do all these silly, humiliating tasks.'"

Celebrity correspondent and runner-up Iain Lee sarcastically replied: "A former Tory MP, going against her principles for wads of cash? Never!

"I worked with her and we rubbed each other up the wrong way, but she doesn't care what people think of her and she will say what she wants to say."

Ann herself revealed last night to CBB host that this year's theme was what convinced her to do the show this year.

The show aims to celebrate 100 years since women secured the right to vote in the UK, with CBB wanting to empower women in this series.

Ann revealed: "It was very specifically because of the theme. I said no in the past and I was saying no now but they said it is different.

"It's slightly more serious, it's about women's lib and that sort of thing, so eventually I said yes."

Vowing she would never "quit" the show early, Ann was however left less than impressed when she made her way into the house, complaining it was "ghastly" and looked like "an IKEA showroom."
