On the first day of new year 2018, the inmates of JP Central Jail got Intercom as a gift from the jail administration. After getting the service JP Central Jail, Hazaribagh, has become the second jail of the country where this facility is available for the jail inmates to talk with their friends or relatives. More than 250 jail inmates enjoyed this facility on January 01, 2018.
Jail Superintendant Hamid Akhtar informed that previously the facility was available only in Tihar Jail, New Delhi. “We have installed 22 intercoms here and in the days to come its number will go up. Disturbance during talk was a common problem which the inmates always raised before the administration.
The intercom facility will minimize this problem and soon we are going to erect some cabins to solve this problem completely,” he said.
In JP Central Jail everyday about 500 to 1000 people come to meet the inmates. The jail administration brings 15-20 inmates at a time in a hall having four big windows.
Usually 3 to 4 inmates talks with their relatives at a time from a window. Since the hall is not sound proof so the sound echoes and gets intermixed also.
The jail administration is also working on making this hall sound and echo proof. For it work is going on the inner walls to make it completely echo proof.
With the start of this service now inmates will freely communicate with their relatives because the service will provide clear sound of both sides.
Generally on a window from one side, four to five inmates and from other side 15-20 relatives used to interact, which was the reason of complaints. The jail administration had sent this proposal much earlier but now it has been implemented.
On day one, more than 250 inmates enjoyed this facility and all looked pleased with it and thanked the jail administration.
Jail Superintendant Hamid Akhtar also informed that on Monday on the occasion of New Year they provided the inmates all the necessary items to enjoy picnic inside the Tagore Hill area of the jail. The inmates cooked and served foods prepared by them to the officials of jail administration also.
