Conditions on roadways, overpasses, and bridges are worsening as Winter Storm Grayson moved in Wednesday afternoon.
Capt. Joey Crosby, spokesman with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, created a video warning drivers of the dangerous conditions and urging people to stay off the roadways, stating bridges and roads are icing.
The bridge on U.S. 17 Bypass that crosses over U.S. 501 was closed for about an hour after icy conditions impacted it and several crashes happened, but re-opened about 3 p.m.
Motorist are encouraged to stay off of the roads as driving conditions deteriorate.
“If you do not have to be out on the roadways today, please do not,” Crosby said.
As of Wednesday afternoon, ice and snow have been reported on International Drive overpass near S.C. 31 overpass, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol website.
SCHP also reports ice/snow on International Drive and U.S. 17.
Ice was reported a bridge on McCormick road off Forestbrook Road is frozen, and ice was reported on George Bishop Parkway, according to radio scanner traffic, and the SCHP website states no one was injured during a crash that happened on the bridge about 1:30 p.m.
As of 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, a tree was reported in the roadway on U.S. 17 Southbound near Brookgreen Gardens, according to the SCHP website.
Multiple crashes have been reported in Horry and Georgetown counties as the storm blew into the areas.
Other bridges, overpasses, and roadways may also be impacted. The Sun News will provided updates as they become available.
