It's been rumored for the past month that Rutgers could add potential Boston College running back grad transfer and former St. Peter's Prep (Jersey city, N.J.) standout, Jon Hilliman to the fold. But NJ.com recently confirmed with the one-time Rutgers commit that he's graduated from BC, is home in Plainfield and will be taking a visit to Rutgers this Friday to potentially secure a roster spot if all goes well.
Hilliman rushed for 638 yards and five TDs in 2017. But the emergence of freshman running back AJ Dillon -- who accumulated 1,589 rushing yards and 14 TDs on 300 carries for the Eagles this year -- has allowed for Hilliman to fully assess all of his options moving forward. Hilliman has given his blood, sweat and tears to the BC program, and it appears at this point, that he'll make the best decision for his future. Being that he's graduated, Hilliman can transfer to another FBS school and compete immediately with one year of eligibility remaining.
Now that things appear to be in motion, let's find out what he'd potentially add to Rutgers' offense if he were to make a move.
Projected role: Load back
The 6-0, 220-pounder is built like a bruising tailback, but has the well-rounded skill-set of an every down contributor at the Big Ten level, coming off four years in the ACC. He specializes at gaining ground in between the tackles, but has developed the versatility to also make plays off the edge and in the passing game.
