The process for finding an alternative site for the 2018 Iowa state high school bowling championships will begin next week.
Plaza Lanes in Des Moines, which has hosted the meets since the sport was officially sanctioned by the IHSAA and IGHSAU, was destroyed by a fire on Dec. 18.
Iowa High School Athletic Association Assistant Director Todd Tharp told The Gazette in an email Wednesday a meeting that will include officials from the IHSAA, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa Bowling Proprietors Association has been set.
“We have a meeting scheduled for next Monday ... to discuss potential sites for the state meet,” Tharp wrote in an email. “Once a few sites are selected, some on-site visits will take place in the next week or two to determine the viability of those sites.”
The three-day state meet is scheduled for Feb. 19-21. Tharp gave no indication if the sites to be considered were only in Des Moines or other cities around the state.
“Hopefully a site will be determined the week of Jan. 15 and approved by our Board of Control at their Jan. 24 meeting,” Tharp wrote.
