Srinagar, January 3: In yet another ceasefire violation by Pakistani forces a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed at Samba Sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. The BSF jawan was celebrating his 51st birthday today, when he was shot dead by Pakistani forces.
“Pakistani forces indiscriminately opened fire at the BSF camp in Samba sector. The BSF retaliated to the unprovoked firing,” the Jammu and Kashmir police said.
A senior police officer with Jammu and Kashmir police said that the BSF soldier died due to fatal bullet injuries in the ceasefire violation.
The firing started today at about 16:35 hrs, Pak 80 Chenab Ranger deployed at Pak post-Jogar Hyder started indiscriminate firing towards own Post Dulma Chak sector Samba manned by BSF 173 Bn which was retaliated from both sides. According to Defence sources, firing is still going on.

According to Home Ministry, in 2017, more than 720 times incident of ceasefire violations took place by Pakistani forces along the LoC, the highest in past seven years.
The data further reveals that Pakistani forces have violated ceasefire 724 times along the LoC till October in comparison to 449 times in 2016.
Till October, at least 12 civilians and 17 security personnel were killed in the firing from across the border. A total of 79 civilians and 67 security personnel were also injured in the ceasefire violation.
The truce between India and Pakistan along the LoC and the Actual Ground Position Line in Jammu and Kashmir came into force in November 2003.
