A knife-wielding man stabbed a person to death and attacked two other people with an iron bar in Ireland — an incident police are investigating as possibly terror-related, local reports said.
The man, who is believed to be from Syria or Egypt, stabbed a Japanese man on the street in Dundalk, located on the eastern coast of Ireland bordering Northern Ireland, at about 9 a.m., local news site RTE reported. The man then allegedly attacked two other people with an iron bar.
The Japanese man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Irish police confronted the man, who had “a number of weapons” on him at the time. The attacker is believed to be 18 years old, according to RTE. He was detained on suspicion of murder.
Authorities are investigating if the attack was terror-related and if the man knew his victims, a source told the Irish Sun.
