Zya Nugent had 22 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and five assists as Denison defeated Denton, 54-45, in District 5-5A action on Tuesday to gain sole possession of first place.


Taryn Gaines added 14 points and six rebounds, Zachareia Sommers scored six points, Ikia Lacy totaled six points and six rebounds and Olivia Marr chipped in five points, four rebounds and three assists for Denison (20-4, 3-0), which plays at Denton Braswell on Friday night.

Alaura Andrews scored seven points for Sherman but Denton Ryan defeated the Lady Bearcats in 5-5A action at Bearcat Gymnasium on Tuesday.


Madison Sorrels added six points for Sherman (7-16, 1-3), which has dropped three straight since a district-opening overtime win against Rider. The Lady Bearcats have the district bye on Friday night.
