GAYA: Following an encounter between the CRPF and armed squad of the CPI (Maoist) in Chakarbandha forest area near Gaya-Aurangabad border on Tuesday, police forces deployed in Maoist affected areas of the district including Dumaria, Imamganj, Banke Bazar and Raushanganj police station areas have been put on high alert on Wednesday.
One CRPF constable Ashish Patra (28), of 205 Cobra Battalion, was killed in a gun battle between the security forces and the Maoists on Tuesday evening. A CRPF party was patrolling the area when Maoists, who were hiding in the forests, opened fire which was retaliated by the security personnel.
According to Gaya SSP Garima Malik, forces have been put on high alert and ready for movement at short notice. Asked about the area domination exercise, the SSP said, "Police forces were in full command in the region and there was no cause for worry." On special operations, the SSP said, "Fresh operation would be launched whenever required. The details cannot be made public."
Sources said forces including Central forces deployed in Maoist-hit areas have been asked not to use four wheelers to avoid major mishap. This is done in view of land mines laid by the Maoists. The Naxalites, it may be recalled have developed expertise in remote controlled landmines explosions.
Moreover, police forces have also been advised not to follow the same route too often and keep the Naxals guessing about their movement plans.
