A car fire inside Eisenhower Tunnel closed the highway in both directions for about an hour early Wednesday afternoon, Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman Stacia Sellers said.
The small vehicle fire was first reported as an “incident” in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 around 12:30 pm, according to a tweet sent out by CDOT.
The fire team stationed within the tunnel began tending to the fire but it was ultimately extinguished by Clear Creek Fire Department.
The tunnel was closed in both directions due to ventilation concerns related to the fire, Sellers said. No injuries were reported and the fire was contained to the single vehicle with no known damaged to the tunnel.
