The third season of True Detective is rounding out its cast.

The HBO drama has cast Stephen Dorff in the next installment of the HBO series from creator Nic Pizzolatto. The Blade actor joins Mahershala Ali and Carmen Ejogo in the drama's return. Dorff will play Roland West, an Arkansas State Investigator who, along with his partner, has his life and career influenced over three decades by a baffling crime.

Season three of True Detective will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. Ali stars as Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas, while Ejogo plays Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980.

As with the past two seasons, Pizzolatto will serve as showrunner and direct, this time alongside Jeremy Saulnier. Executive producers are Pizzolatto, Saulnier, Scott Stephens and season-one stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, as well as the show's original director, Cary Joji Fukunaga. Anonymous Content's Steve Golin, Bard Dorros and Richard Brown are also exec producers.

Dorff, for his part, has been acting in movies and television shows for two decades. He appeared as disillusioned Hollywood actor and single father Johnny Marco in Sofia Coppola's Somewhere, which won a Golden Lion at the 2010 Venice Film Festival. In 2009, he starred opposite Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in gangster drama Public Enemies. Other credits include Blade, Blood and Wine, Cecil B. Demented, Shadowboxer and American Hero. Dorff was most recently cast in Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel Leatherface.
