Miracle Quilts for Our Wounded Troops will meet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at Independence Village, 701 Market Street, Oxford.

Miracle Quilts was founded in 2009 by Carole Carroll to honor the service and sacrifice of PFC Joseph A. Miracle, killed in action July 5, 2007, in Afghanistan. Miracle Quilts is a division of Desert Angels Inc, a nonprofit organization that sends Miracle Boxes, or care packages, to troops serving overseas.

Miracle Quilts mission is to create patriotic quilts to present to wounded troops at hospitals, to those currently serving and to homeless veterans.

Volunteer sewers at any skill level are welcome. Persons interested in participating should bring a sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, fabric and a project to work on.

The quilts can be patriotic or not. here are other projects to sew, if they do not wish to make a quilt. There are walker bags that can be attached to a walker, pillowcases and presentation bags for the quilts.

“A job can be found for you. It takes many hands to create these quilts,” said Carroll.

The group’s needs list includes cotton fabric and gift certificates for local quilt shops. The group’s wish list includes office space for quilt storage and possible studio, gas cards to help with delivery of quilts and quilters to help with the quilting process.

Hundreds of quilts have been delivered to Walter Reed Military Medical Center, Bethesda Naval Hospital, military retirement homes and VA Hospitals and other hospitals in Michigan, including Troy Beaumont and to the Fisher House in Landsthul, Germany and to local veterans.

The group meets on the second Saturday of the month at Independence Village or individuals can sew at home. The group also meets at the Oxford Public Library during the week. The dates fluctuate due to the library’s schedule. For more information, call Carroll at 248-321-8669 or email MiracleQuilts@att.net.
