Chelsea news: Antonio Conte lays down challenge to Alvaro Morata after Arsenal draw

ANTONIO CONTE has continued to back under-fire Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata after his performance against Arsenal, but insists he musts work hard to get back to scoring ways.

Morata fired another blank as the Blues drew at the Emirates this evening.

The Spaniard spurned three one-on-one opportunities during a pulsating game.

After going 2-1 ahead, the Blues failed to kill off the match, as Hector Bellerin fired home deep in stoppage time.

Both sides shared over 30 chances during the course of the 90 minutes.

While Morata is going through a mini drought, having not scored in his past two Premier League outings, Conte concedes it is a ‘pity’, however maintains he must work hard to rediscover his golden touch.

“It is not luck in this period, he has to continue to work and continue to improve,” Conte said.

"For a striker it is very important to score, it is a pity, he had many chances to score, but I'm very happy with his commitment and effort for the team."

Despite his recent troubles in front of goal, Morata has netted 10 times in England’s top flight this term.

The draw leaves Chelsea seven points clear of Arsenal in the table.

Wenger’s men are now a point behind Tottenham, who could extend the gap to four points should they beat West Ham tomorrow (8pm).

After that, they travel to face Nottingham Forest on Sunday (4pm) in the third round of the FA Cup.
