UK: possible taxes on tech firms over extremists

(MENAFN) Britain will likely impose new taxes on tech firms including Google and Facebook, unless they do more to oppose online extremism by removing contents intended to radicalizing people or helping them to prepare attacks.

British Conservative Party politician, Ben Wallace accused them of happily selling users' data but not to give it to the government, and said: "If they continue to be less than co-operative, we should look at things like tax as a way of incentivizing them or compensating for their inaction."

According to Facebook, it has taken down 83% of uploaded copies of terrorist content within one hour of its being found on the social media network, and it also plans to double the staff working on safety and security.
