Dutch cable operator Delta and Greenet said they are surprised at the lack of interest in the deployment of broadband in the outlying areas of Zeeland, the Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant reported. In the daily, the two companies are calling on residents in the rural areas of Zeeland to report in order to qualify for the subsidy scheme for fast internet. From 1 February, the companies will determine where there is enough interest for rollout.

Delta and Greenet are working together to provide broadband internet to residents in outlying areas, based on fixed wireless access. The province and municipalities are also offering subsidies. The companies said the offer has been running for a long time and that enthusiasm has not proved high enough for deployment.Delta said it needs at least 200 connections per installation point to make the investment profitable. The company will start work when it gets 150 registrations.

Costs paid back almost entirely

Each home will have to pay about EUR 350 for deployment. As part of the promotion, Delta is offering an EUR 100 discount per address. The subsidy scheme consists of EUR 100 from the province another EUR 100 from the municipality (not all municipalities are participating). This means that households in fact will only need to pay a one-off charge of EUR 50.
