Haryana Government has won the Central Board of Irrigation and Power Award for 2018 for optimum and efficient utilisation of water resources.
The award will be presented by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Water Resources and Clean Ganga Mission, in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The award has acknowledged the efforts made by Haryana Government led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal, who also holds the portfolio of Irrigation Department. The State made history in carrying water to the villages right up to the Rajasthan border, after a span of more than 25 years, said an official spokesman.
He said that the vast network of canals built by Bansi Lal, former Chief Minister, was on the verge of extinction when Manohar Lal took the reins and turned the whole system around.
The efforts made by the present government since 2014 have resulted in the JNL Feeder carrying over 150 per cent water as compared to 2014; MGC carrying over 200 per cent water compared to 2014; and JLN Canal Carrier carrying 300 per cent as compared to 2014, the spokesman added.
