Vivo is known to be prepping the under-display fingerprint scanning technology and the same was showcased at the MWC Shanghai in June 2017.

Vivo X20 Plus with under-display fingerprint sensor likely coming soon

Notably, the under-glass fingerprint scanning technology was demonstrated with the Vivo Xplay 6 and is likely to go mainstream will the launch of the Vivo Xplay 7. Besides this one, the company is rumored to be all set to launch the next-generation Vivo X20 and X20 Plus smartphones with under-display fingerprint sensors. Notably, the company has already announced Vivo X20 and X20 Plus smartphones in China in the last year.

A PhoneRadar report claims that they have spotted a new listing of a Vivo smartphone with the moniker Vivo X20Plus UD on the 3C certification website. The suffix UD in the name is believed to point out at the presence of an under-display fingerprint sensor on this device. The model number of the device is listed to be BK1124 and it is likely to be launched with support for 4G LTE and fast charging as well.

For now, there is no clear information regarding when this new smartphone will be launched. But it is claimed that the Vivo X20Plus UD that is in question might come with similar specification as the original Vivo X20 Plus. Going by the launch pattern of the company, we can expect the Vivo X20 UD to also join the Vivo X20Plus UD.

Back in December 2017, Synaptics confirmed that Vivo will be the first OEM to get the in-display fingerprint sensors. The new-generation Clear ID FS9500 sensors from Synaptics are designed to be used even on OLED displays.

Talking about the specifications, the original Vivo X20 smartphones feature a FullView AMOLED panel and make use of a metal unibody full-screen design with 18:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution. Under their hood, these smartphones make use of a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC paired with 4GB/6GB RAM for multi-tasking. Running Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the Vivo smartphones are topped with the FunTouchOS 3.2.

In terms of imaging, the Vivo X20 and Vivo X20 Plus have a dual camera setup at the rear with 24MP and 5MP sensors. Up front, these smartphones feature a 24MP Moonlight selfie camera as seen in the Vivo V7 Plus. Given that the upcoming Vivo smartphones with in-glass fingerprint sensors will have similar specifications as the existing models, we can expect them to be different only in terms of design and display.
