America’s Deadly Cold Snap in Photos

Winter Storm Grayson could set record lows for cold temperatures.

If you’ve been freezing cold all week, you’re not alone. A majority of the states in the lower 48 are experiencing an extreme cold snap this week that has claimed at least 11 lives from Wisconsin to Texas since Tuesday morning, CNN reports.

But it’s far from over. An area of low pressure that will drop significantly in 24 hours, called a “bombogenesis,” will hit the Northeast this week creating what forecasters are calling a “bomb cyclone” that is expected to leave 6 to 12 inches of snow in New England on Thursday along with up to 60 mph gusts of wind.

Winter Storm Grayson started its path up the east coast on Wednesday, leaving freezing rain, sleet and even snow in places as far south as Florida, where authorities have cancelled school and government offices in preparation.
