Wednesday, 3 January 2018 () Ethiopia's Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn announced that he plans to drop charges against political prisoners and would close a famous prison camp on Wednesday, according to The Guardian. Hailemariam 's surprise announcement described an attempt to "widen the democratic space for all," but is also the first time that the government acknowledged it was holding political prisoners from the number of anti-government protests in recent months across the Oromia and Amhara regions.
