Baseball

The 34th annual Hot Stove Banquet will be held Jan. 16 at the San Jose Elks Club (444 W. Alma Ave.). Recently retired Stanford baseball coach Mark Marquess will receive a service award. The Milwaukee Brewers’ Eric Thames, a Bellarmine graduate, is the Major League Player of the Year. The Minnesota Twins’ Trevor Hildenberger, a Mitty graduate, is the Major League Pitcher of the Year. Leland graduate Andrew Meggs is the Frank Bettencourt Award winner, and Westmont graduate Hunter Schilperoort is the High School Player winner. Both the Westmont and Valley Christian teams will be honored as Outstanding Amateur Organization Award winners.
The price is $55 per person ($550 for a reserved table for 10). The registration deadline is Jan. 10. To pay, send a check to Hot Stove of Santa Clara Valley, P.O. Box 4868, San Jose, CA 95150-4868. Softball

Registration for the Los Gatos-Saratoga-Cupertino Girls Fastpitch Softball recreation league is open until January 15 for pre-kindergarten to 8th grade girls. The season runs from early March to early May 2018, with practices and pre-season clinics starting earlier. Register and more info online at lgcsfastpitch.org.
