HARTFORD (AP) — U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy are planning to go to Puerto Rico to meet with local officials and see firsthand the work that remains to recover from Hurricane Maria.
Blumenthal and Murphy say they’ll spend Tuesday and Wednesday on the island gathering evidence of the ongoing devastation. The Connecticut Democrats say they’ll use the information to make a case for additional disaster relief.
The hurricane hit on Sept. 20 with winds of up to 154 mph, knocking power out to the entire island.
Puerto Rico authorities said Friday that nearly half of power customers in the U.S. territory still lack electricity.
The senators’ itinerary includes meeting with Puerto Rico’s governor, visiting a hospital and a manufacturing facility, and touring Las Piedras with the municipality’s mayor.
Sounds like a vacation on our dime! What is Blumie and Murph going to do for PR????
If we’re lucky they won’t come back.
Agreed!
Hope they stay there.
Can’t fix their own state so there going to help them fix theirs! Judy’s Right!
They will probably be too cheap to throw them some paper towels.
It’s not a vacation. This is a legitimate political buinsess trip for Senators Blumenthal and Murphy to gather information and figure out the best ways for the federal government to help Puerto Rico recover. Senators Blumenthal and Murphy are seriously concerned about Puerto Rico’s dire situation.
snarf: Your Opinion! What about Us in Connecticut? Anything they do has votes attached to it! ( My Opinion)
Gas, I agree that Senators Murphy and Blumenthal also need to help people in economically depressed Connecticut. But Puerto Rico right now is in much worse shape than Connecticut. Congress should be doing things to help Puerto Rico rebuild and to help jumpstart the economy in economically depressed states such as Connecticut, Rhode Island, etc.
snarf, how much is your dry cleaning bill?? I mean the blood stains you have to get out of your shirts from your bleeding heart Liberal opinions…my God!
Even you don’t believe what you said.
Here we go again ..Blumenthal and Murphy jumping on the crisis band wagon to get those Hispanic votes come election time. The real crisis is here in Ct, but they’re too busy attacking our president, looking into the Russian connection, banning guns, and taking photo opps to really help the crisis in Ct.
Here they go again, the bobsey twins wasting taxpayers’ money on a totally unnecessary trip just to grandstand for another photo op publicity stunt! As usual, they’re off on some tangent unrelated to their role as CT senators, while ignoring the needs of CT and constituent requests or paying lip service to them. CT, please come to your senses and rid us of these two leaches on the public dole as pseudo congressmen.
I hope they brought their interpreters because not many can speak English. Imagine that , a US territory and hardly anyone can speak English; it’s called resistance to the American Culture. Just send money so we can rebuild their second home while they’ll permanently resettle in Ct. Oh and send more Spanish books for the schools.
