(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Jan 3 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) Salim Al-Zanoun has urged the Arab countries to rupture relations with any state that recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital or moves embassy to the city, in line with a resolution of the 11th Arab Summit, Jordan, 1980.
In a statement distributed by the Amman-based PNC, Al-Zanoun said the 1980 resolution was reaffirmed by the Arab Summits in Baghdad, 1990, and Cairo, 2000.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Central Council (PCC) will seek during its meeting in Ramallah mid-January to conclude "suitable resolutions, and endorse a combative future vision as part of a national strategy on all levels," he said.
The vision will be based on implementation of the PCC latest resolutions, reviewing the tasks of the Palestinian National Authority, and working on consolidating the institutions of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) as the legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people, Al-Zanoun noted.
He also slammed the December 6 US President Donald Trump's decision recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital saying the move transgressed the rules of the international law, and "flagrantly violated the international legitimacy, through disgraceful use of the (UNSC) Veto." On December 21, the 193-member UN General Assembly (UNGA) voted with an overwhelming majority, 128 in favor to nine against, with 35 abstentions, for a resolution that rejected any change in status of Jerusalem.
It also expressed "deep regret" over the US move concerning the status of the Holy City and stressed it "is a final status issue to be resolved through negotiations in line with relevant UN resolutions." (end) ab.am.msa
