Alaster Ashby, 40, was on a visit to see the Royal Family at Sandringham on New Year’s Eve when the Duke is reported to have asked “is that a terrorist?” when spotting a man in the crowd.
The 96-year-old, who retired from royal duties last year, was chatting to Princess Anne when he made the gaffe, it was reported.
Alaster, from Dersingham, was later branded a hipster for his hairy look.

He once told a group of British students in China: “If you stay here much longer, you'll all be slitty-eyed.”
He asked a sea cadet: ”Do you work it a strip club?" and said to a Kenyan woman giving him a gift: “You are a woman, aren't you?”.
The Prince also once asked a aboriginal Australian: ”Do you still throw spears at each other?”.
