Express Sport understands Luiz is a transfer target for Arsenal as Gunners manager Wenger looks to strengthen his defence in January.

However, the Frenchman recently rubbished reports that Arsenal are in the race for the out-of-favour centre-back, who has also been linked with Juventus.

Luiz has been sidelined with a knee injury after losing his place in the Chelsea starting XI to Andreas Christensen.

The 30-year-old fell out with Antonio Conte earlier in the season and has been told he can leave Stamford Bridge if the Blues have an adequate replacement lined up.

However, Luiz seemed happy enough in training at Cobham yesterday as Chelsea continued their preparations for tonight’s Premier League clash with Arsenal
