WATERBURY – A morning shooting Tuesday outside of Waterbury Superior Court left a man with a gunshot wound to the leg, which authorities suspect is tied to escalating violence between groups in the city. Multiple pops of gunfire were heard…

They are probably afraid to catch illegals. They pass school buses, run red lights, speed, make u-turns.The last thing they want to do is have a document on someone who is supposed to undocumented and working cheap at a local construction site.
@allphie ……. what does your comment have to the written article above? I’m not being judgmental or a critic but I just don’t see ANY connection in what you’ve just said.
That aside …… if somehow more car stops by the police were done, it might help. Checking plates on vehicles that clearly don’t match….which in turn will lead to acess to a driver and passengers IDs. Then its documented ….. who they are, where they live. I know it’s small stuff but it does lead to bigger fish. Also, no more granting bail on someone that has a criminal history in the last five years. No quarter is to be given. Hell roll through the hood, make yourself known …… let them know you’re watching them. Take off the gloves Waterbury PD, it’s okay …… we approve.
The mayor is accurate in his statement about Gov. Malloy not wanting persons awaiting trial held on bond. Once again most of these gun crimes are perpetrated by persons not in legal possession of firearms. How could this be, Connecticut has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. Oh wait, these laws only apply to law abiding citizens, and the criminals.
Hector – you are right. In my mind the sharp increase in crime across our city and state can be directly attributed to Mr. Malloy’s second chance initiative. Anyone using an illegal gun while committing a violent crime should not be released on bond. .Petty crimes are one thing but what we see today is total disrespect for the police and the citizens of our city and state.
When that courthouse opened and a few years after there were officers everywhere outside plus guards.
But now there’s a mayor who use to be an officer. So no officers, maybe to cold out for them or maybe DD was having a donut special
THESE are the people Democrats invite and want in your city..Too bad it wasn’t one of these judges who was hit by the gunfire..
The Mayor was devastated… funny
The mayor should be upset. The police department needs a shake up. What ever their strategy is, its not working. The judicial marshals are nothing more than baggage screeners at the courthouse. Now the average citizen going for jury duty has to fear for their life. Unacceptable is putting it mildly.
“The shooting, the first of the year, follows a 2017 that was marked by at least 65 shootings and 13 homicides. Those numbers are sharp increases from two years ago.”
Nonsense! Waterbury is safe. No crime here.
Here’s an interesting fact ….. New Haven only had 7 homicides in 2017 compared to our 13. Funny, I always thought New Haven was worse than Waterbury…… clearly I stand corrected.
Just tell them you believe in jury nullification. Like if a guy murders a guy who raped a woman you would say…not guilty even if the prosecution had a fingerprint on the scene in the victims blood. I also believe laws are for the little people. Look at that chesire woman who killed someone drunk on Christmas getting probation that year. Laws are for the little people. If you can afford enough lawyers…well ask Hilary…What difference does it make?? Kangaroo court that abuses and houses the mentally ill and poor.
As we all have been saying all along…police need to start making stops and you will be surprised by what you find….setup up stops…pull over people…..start some where…..really. Not sure what we are waiting for.
Yes – ignore the 4th amendment. Let the police knock down doors without a search warrant while you’re at it – good idea
Or do nothing its really working
